What painting work do we do?
Construction Andros has been painting houses on Andros since 1996. Indoors, we paint walls and ceilings; outdoors, we paint facades. At the site visit, we check surfaces for damp, cracks and old paint that is coming away, and we tell you what preparation the job needs and which materials to use.
Do you paint inside and outside?
Both.
- Indoors:we paint walls and ceilings in living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms, where a wall that gets steam every day needs a different paint from a bedroom wall.
- Outdoors:we paint facades, which on the island take sun, wind and salt from the sea all year.
So every job starts with where the paint is going.
-
Interior walls and ceilings
-
Exterior facades
-
The right material for each surface
-
Painting only on dry walls
Paint lasts only as long as the preparation underneath it.
What materials do you use?
We don't use one product for everything. We choose materials for the job, the room and what it has to withstand: a bathroom wall, a living room ceiling and a facade facing the sea each need something different. We choose after the site visit and explain what we recommend and why.
When is exterior painting done?
Exterior painting is done once the building has dried out. We don't paint over damp, because paint on a wet wall doesn't bond properly and soon blisters and peels. After rain, or on very humid days, the work waits until the walls are dry, so the paint lasts for years.
Popular questions
For exterior painting, spring and autumn are the best seasons on Andros. The walls are dry and the days are mild, so the paint dries at the right pace. In July and August, the strong sun and the summer north wind dry it too fast, and in winter, rain and damp keep the walls wet. We paint indoors all year round. At the site visit, we tell you the right time to start.
The surface is prepared first. We clean it, scrape off loose old paint, fill cracks and apply primer where needed. Paint lasts only as long as the preparation underneath it. Facades show this first, because they are out in the weather all year.
It depends on how exposed the facade is to sun, wind and sea, how well the surface was prepared, and whether the paint went onto a dry wall with the right material. A facade right by the sea needs attention more often than one in the island's interior.
