What building works do we take on?

Construction Andros has been a building contractor on Andros since 1996. We lay microcement for any use, build bathrooms and kitchens in place, build and maintain timber roofs and pergolas, and do stonework, dry stone walls and external wall insulation. Each job starts with a site visit. We assess the substrate, measurements and site conditions, then explain how the work should be done.

Where can microcement go?

Microcement can go almost anywhere:

  • Floors
  • Walls
  • Kitchen worktops
  • Showers and basins

It is a thin, cement-based coating, spread with a trowel, that creates one continuous surface with no grout lines. If the surface underneath moves or holds moisture, the microcement cracks, so we check and prepare the substrate before applying it. In bathrooms and other wet areas, we seal it with a suitable varnish.

Do you build bathrooms and kitchens in place?

Many people on Andros now ask for built-in bathrooms and kitchens, and we build both. We build worktops, cupboards, shelves and showers where they stand and finish them in microcement. There are no tile joints to darken over the years, and the result fits the island's architecture, where built-in features have always been part of the house.

Do you build timber roofs and pergolas?

Construction Andros builds, installs and maintains timber roofs and pergolas on houses all over Andros. A pergola shades a yard or a terrace through the summer months. A timber roof needs regular maintenance to stand up to the island's wind and damp. We design each structure after the site visit, around the space it has to fit.

Do you take on renovations from start to finish?

Yes. Construction Andros takes on building work of every kind and does the painting too, so a house renovation can run from the first building job to the last coat of paint with the same people. No second crew has to take over halfway through. It starts with a site visit: we look at the house, explain what needs doing, which materials we'll use and in what order, then carry out the work as agreed.
